How I Worship Kali at Home – Tuesday with Maa Kali

 

Today is Tuesday, a day traditionally devoted to Kali.

My worship at home is simple. I offer flowers to Maa Kali and spend some time sitting before Her. She is especially fond of red flowers, particularly hibiscus, so I like to offer them whenever I can. But I believe that every flower is welcome when it is given with devotion. What matters to me is not the flower itself, but the heart with which it is offered.

Sometimes there is only the light of a diya, the flowers and Her image before me.

I repeat Her mantras.

Krīṃ is the bīja, or seed mantra, associated with Kali. It is a short and concentrated mantra used in devotion to Her.

I also repeat:

Om Krīṃ Kālikāyai Namaḥ

A simple salutation to Kali - an expression of reverence and devotion to Maa.

I believe that anyone can turn toward Maa Kali. There is no need to belong to a particular place or to have elaborate offerings. She is Mother, and Her children can approach Her with whatever they have to give - even a single flower, a simple prayer or a few moments of silence.

For me, Maa Kali loves all Her children.

A flower, a flame, a mantra and a moment of silence are enough for me to turn toward Her.
